Eremocene is a neologism defined as the age of loneliness. In a digitized world of unlimited possibilities, people increasingly become isolated units without strong ties to reality. The melancholic cinematic postcard from the future addresses this sadness and melancholy stemming from the state our world is heading towards.

Trailer
Viera Čákanyová builds on her previous films FREM and White on White, completing an imaginary trilogy in which she explores loneliness, climate change, and modern technologies. In Notes from Eremocene, she engages in a dialogue with her virtual future self in an attempt to understand where the decisions made by the current generation might lead. This formally unique film blurs the lines between experimental essay and documentary science fiction, demonstrating the tension between the past, present, and future as a transition between analog and digital. It absorbs the theme of the deteriorating state of the environment and the highly relevant question of artificial intelligence, which is linked to the depersonalization of the society we live in. It asks: what will the future of our planet and human interactions look like?
