Alina Predescu has a bachelor degree in mathematics from the Faculty of Mathematics at the University of Bucharest, and a bachelor degree in audiovisual communications from the National University of Theatre and Film “I.L. Caragiale”. After she emigrates to California, Predescu teaches math at Palo Alto High School. As a film scholar, Predescu researches Polish documentaries made between 1960 – 1980. In her dissertation, she identifies and analyses the aesthetic and political dimensions of the relationship between the complex forms of interview and verbal address present in these films, and the historical and socio-political context of the development of the Solidarity Movement.
At UC Berkeley, Alina Predescu teaches, for ten years, classes on writing film analysis, and courses on the history and theory of documentary film. She presents at numerous international conferences (Visible Evidence, SCMS, AICED).
