KineDok, the European initiative dedicated to promoting creative documentaries in alternative venues, organised in Romania by the One World Romania Association, continues in December with nationwide screenings. Our effort to bring documentaries closer to the audience is complemented by special guest screenings and online discussions based on the films. Access to all screenings, both physical and online, is free of charge.

This month, the featured film Arsenie. An Amazing Afterlife can be watched online between December 5 – 10, subtitled in English. To receive access details, please reply to this email.

The online discussion based on "Arsenie. An Amazing Afterlife" will be available on the KineDok Facebook page starting December 9 at 8:00 PM and will be held in English. The guests will include the film’s director, Alexandru Solomon, and anthropologist Simion Pop, KineDok Bistrița organiser. They will discuss the film in the context of the current political and religious landscape.

Synopsis: In the midst of our frustrations, the hypnotic gaze of a monk who has been dead for over three decades promises us a better world. A disillusioned world, one that has lost faith in everything, awaits the miracle of changes that never came from this future saint. The legend of Father Arsenie Boca – for he is the one in question – fills the void left by the disappointments of the past 30 years. Arsenie Boca’s life may have appeared ordinary for his time, but his afterlife has been nothing short of extraordinary. He has emerged as a savior figure for millions, an omnipresent brand, and a symbol of the turbulent times we navigate today.

Alexandru Solomon will also join the screening and discussion of "Arsenie. An Amazing Afterlife" at the Visual Arts Museum in Galați on December 19, starting at 6:00 PM.

Lavinia Braniște, special guest in Botoșani and Suceava

In December, Between Revolutions, directed by Vlad Petri, will have several special screenings. Lavinia Braniște, one of Romania’s most renowned contemporary writers and co-screenwriter of the film, will be present for discussions with the audience after the screenings in Botoșani (Cinema Unirea, December 4, 7:00 PM) and Suceava (Spațiul Cilindru, managed by Asociația Un Concept Luna, December 5, 7:00 PM).

"Between Revolutions" at Bridging Communities

The Romanian National Council for Refugees is organizing another screening of "Between Revolutions" in Bucharest on December 7, at 5:30 PM, as part of the Bridging Communities event, which will take place at The Ark.

This initiative celebrates diversity and brings communities together by exploring universal themes through art and culture. The event will feature exhibitions, creative workshops for kids, live music and a living library where you can connect with the personal stories of refugees.

KineDok returns to Oradea at Cetatea Oradea
